In the latest Windows Insider Beta version, KB5041881, Microsoft has included several improvements and new features. One notable change that flew under the radar due to not being mentioned in any release notes is a new option for pinning apps to the taskbar.
Prior to this update, users could already pin apps by dragging and dropping icons from their Desktop or the Start menu. However, the new update includes the ability to drag and drop apps directly from search results, which was not previously available.
To use this new feature, users can search for an app via the search box or the Start menu, then drag the app directly from the search results to the taskbar to pin it. As the user does so, they will see a ‘Link’ tooltip that indicates that pinning is allowed. Previously, users would have to right-click on the app and select ‘Pin to taskbar’ to achieve the same result.
This update also includes several other new features, such as a ‘Sign out’ button directly on the Start menu, an option to disable enhanced mouse pointer precision, a new Gamepad keyboard layout for the on-screen keyboard, and UX changes to Desktop Spotlight. These improvements are all part of Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to enhance the user experience in Windows 11.
Due to the beta nature of this update, it remains to be seen when this feature will roll out to all Windows 11 users.
Microsoft recently released a new Beta version update, KB5041881, for Windows Insiders. This update brings several exciting improvements and features, one of which caught my attention: the ability to pin apps to the taskbar directly from search results.
With this new update, users can now search for an app via the search box or the Start menu and then drag the app directly from the search results to the taskbar to pin it. This is a more seamless and intuitive way of pinning apps, as users no longer need to right-click on the app and select Pin to taskbar.
Other notable features in this update include a new “Sign out” button on the Start menu, the option to disable enhanced mouse pointer precision, a new Gamepad keyboard layout, and UX changes to Desktop Spotlight.
