Steam Store Page Updates: New Rules for Developers and Publishers

Valve has announced changes to the rules surrounding what developers and publishers can write in their store descriptions on Steam. These changes aim to improve the overall user experience and maintain a clean and organized store page.

Changes to Store Page Sections

Starting in early September, four sections on Steam store pages will be impacted:

  • About The Game
  • Short Description
  • Any Special Announcement
  • Awards
  • New Rules for Store Page Content

Developers and publishers will no longer be allowed to include:

  • Links to other websites, including social media pages, in the above-mentioned sections
  • Embedded imagery that mimics Steam store UI or buttons, such as wishlist buttons, game capsules, or prices
  • Images, links, or widgets that point to other games on Steam
  • These changes mean that developers cannot use the store page description to advertise other products on Steam.

    Recent Updates to Steam

Steam has implemented other changes recently, including making it easier for players to search for particular games and making game demos easier to discover. These updates demonstrate Valve’s commitment to improving the Steam experience for both developers and players.
