At 88 years old, Shirley Curry, also known as Skyrim Grandma, is bringing her nine-year-long journey of making Skyrim gameplay videos to a close. Curry made this announcement in a newly released video where she explained that she is no longer having fun making these videos.
According to Curry, she’s just tired and bored of it. In the video, she stated, “I’m just doing it for fun and it isn’t fun anymore. I’m tired of it. I’m bored with it. I’m bored to death with it.” As a result, she has made the decision to stop making game videos and uploading them.
Although Curry is retiring from making Skyrim videos, she doesn’t plan to quit YouTube altogether. Instead, she plans to continue making videos about other topics she’s passionate about. These topics include novels she’s read, a quilt she wants to make, and potentially a book that she may write.
Curry’s Skyrim fandom has earned her admirers all over the world, including inside Bethesda. In 2019, Bethesda revealed that Curry had lent her likeness to the company and may be featured as a NPC in The Elder Scrolls VI. If that happens, Curry’s legacy in Skyrim will live on beyond her videos.
While Curry’s decision may come as a surprise to some, it’s clear that her impact on the gaming community will continue to be felt. Her dedication to sharing her love for Skyrim with the world has inspired many, and her legacy will live on through her future projects and potential appearance in The Elder Scrolls VI.
