Shogun Showdown is a deckbuilding roguelike that will challenge your tactical skills, making you feel like a strategic genius when everything clicks into place. The game, which has just left early access, allows you to see what the enemies plan to do next, adding a layer of complexity to the gameplay.
In Shogun Showdown, you’ll constantly try to position your character across a small level to either attack your foes or dodge their moves. You can upgrade your “tiles” (think: cards) to improve their damage, add perks like freezing ice, or lower their cooldown so that you can use them more frequently. The ability to stack up to three tiles allows you to send off a salvo of moves to take out a bunch of bad guys at once.
During each run, you’ll have opportunities to improve your tiles, pick up new ones, and shop for upgrades. With a little planning, you can make some extraordinarily powerful tiles. Collecting skulls will also unlock new tiles and items to buy at item shops, adding variety to each run.
Shogun Showdown is a game that will keep you coming back for more. With four additional characters to unlock and harder “days” with added challenges, there’s still a lot to see and explore. Experimenting with different weapons and strategies is part of the fun, and you’ll find yourself trying new things and stumbling into unexpected combinations.
