Western Digital Unveils Groundbreaking 8TB SD and 4TB MicroSD Cards

Western Digital has announced two groundbreaking memory cards: the world’s first 8TB SD card and the world’s first 4TB microSD card. These new cards offer huge creative flexibility for photographers and videographers, allowing them to shoot for longer without needing to switch cards.

Massive Storage Capacity

With an 8TB SD card, you can store approximately 165,000 raw files at 24MP. A 4TB microSD card can store over 660 games with a 12GB file size on a Nintendo Switch.

Slow Transfer Speeds

Both cards use the Secure Digital Ultra Capacity (SDUC) standard, but are UHS-I, which means they have slower transfer speeds compared to UHS-II cards. The V classification for the cards has not been shared, but Western Digital’s existing 1.5TB Ultra microSDXC UHS-I card has a V10 speed rating, resulting in minimum transfer speeds of 10MB/s.

Despite some drawbacks, Western Digital has achieved something impressive with these new cards. The largest SD cards in 1999 had just 32MB of storage capacity, making an 8TB memory card a major advancement. However, don’t expect the new cards to come cheap.
