A new VPN, NymVPN, launched its beta version as the “world’s most private VPN” by startup Nym Technologies.
NymVPN achieves its private status through several key methods. This includes independent multi-hop routing of all connections, decentralized blockchain technology, anonymous payments, open-source code, and zero-knowledge identity verification.
At signup, users can register for the service without disclosing personal information. The Nym blockchain issuing authority provides users with anonymous credentials that can be redeemed for service usage. This same blockchain technology powers the VPN itself.
NymVPN operates on a decentralized five-hop mixnet, which splits and encrypts data into smaller packets. These packets are then mixed, rebuilt, and decrypted on the receiving side. This system aims to obfuscate personal data more effectively than standard encrypted VPN tunnels.
The VPN also offers two modes: “Fast” and “Anonymous.” Fast mode optimizes the connection for speed by rerouting traffic through a decentralized network running on two-hop servers. Anonymous mode prioritizes privacy by rerouting traffic through the full five-hop mixnet with added network noise.
According to Nym, most VPNs do not actually protect user privacy. Advanced data tracking systems can analyze data from a VPN’s centralized servers to determine user activity. NymVPN claims to change this with its new network.
NymVPN is currently free to try. Users can sign up on the NymVPN website with an email address to receive access. The VPN is available for Windows, Android, iOS, macOS, and Linux.
NymVPN, a new player in the world of virtual private networks (VPNs), has just launched its beta version, touting itself as the “world’s most private VPN.” What sets NymVPN apart from its competitors is its use of independent multi-hop routing, decentralized blockchain technology, anonymous payments, and open-source code.
One of the standout features of NymVPN is its zero-knowledge identity verification technology, which allows users to register for the service without disclosing any personal information. The VPN itself uses a decentralized five-hop mixnet, which splits and encrypts data into smaller packets, making it more difficult to track.
NymVPN also offers two modes of operation: Fast and Anonymous. Fast mode prioritizes speed, while Anonymous mode maximizes privacy. The VPN is currently available for Windows, Android, iOS, macOS, and Linux, and can be tried for free by signing up on the NymVPN website.
This could be a game-changer in the world of VPNs. With its focus on decentralized technology and anonymous transactions, NymVPN has the potential to be a much more secure option for users who value their online privacy.
