God of War Ragnarök, an excellent game, has been review-bombed on Steam due to the requirement of a PlayStation Network (PSN) account to play the single-player title. Despite being well-known before the PC port launched, many players felt burned by this prerequisite.
The main issue is that some players felt that the PSN requirement was unnecessary, especially since it’s a single-player game. Although Sony clearly noted this requirement in its PC announcement, several players still expressed their discontent. Even though this prerequisite was publicized by various outlets, including TechSpot, some players felt that Sony blindsided them.
It’s worth noting that this requirement is not new. Ghost of Tsushima’s multiplayer mode also requires a linked PSN account. Furthermore, Sony confirmed that Bloodborne and the Until Dawn remake will have this stipulation upon release, and both are single-player games.
Fortunately, modders have found a way to bypass the PSN requirement. A simple modification on Nexus strips the PSN requirement out of the game. Users can copy a few DLLs into the game directory, launch the game, and then click “No” when asked to link PSN and Steam accounts.
