K-pop fans are currently divided on the use of artificial intelligence in music. With several top groups, including Seventeen, experimenting with AI-generated music videos and lyrics, the debate is heating up.
Seventeen’s Woozi recently spoke out about the band’s use of AI, stating that they are “experimenting” with the technology to “develop along with technology rather than complain about it.” However, Woozi later clarified that all of Seventeen’s music is “written and composed by human creators.”
Fans are torn on the issue. Some, like super fan Ashley Peralta, believe that AI can help artists overcome creative blocks. However, others worry that AI-generated lyrics will lead to a loss of connection between fans and artists.
Music journalist Arpita Adhya believes that the use of AI in K-pop is a result of the pressure to constantly produce new content. She calls for regulations to be put in place to ensure that AI is used responsibly and that artists are fairly compensated.
With the rise of AI in K-pop, it remains to be seen how the industry will evolve. One thing is certain, however: the debate is far from over.
