A new musical based on the 2013 documentary “Particle Fever” is set to hit Broadway. The original documentary follows the journey to detect the Higgs boson at the world’s largest particle accelerator.
The documentary was created by David Kaplan, a physicist turned filmmaker, who had a vision to share the story of the Higgs boson discovery with a wider audience. The film took seven years to complete and features footage shot by CERN physicists themselves.
ROCO Films CEO Annie Roney saw the potential for a musical and brought on board a team of creatives to make it happen. The musical features music and lyrics by Bear McCreary and Zoe Sarnak, and is directed by Leigh Silverman. A private reading was recently held, featuring songs about particle physics.
