GreedFall 2 Takes a Step Backwards

The sequel to the 2019 RPG GreedFall has left me feeling underwhelmed. Despite the original game’s success, GreedFall 2 seems to have taken a step backwards in terms of gameplay and overall enjoyment.

Changes to the Series

The most notable changes in GreedFall 2 are the setting and combat system. The game takes place three years before the events of the first game, but this time, you play as a native Teer Fradee islander. The combat system has also been changed to a pseudo turn-based system, which, in my opinion, doesn’t work as well as the original.

A Step Backwards in Combat

The new combat system is clunky and can be infuriating at times. The button presses are odd, and the system is not as intuitive as the original. I’m not sure why the developers, Spiders, decided to change the combat system, as the original was enjoyable and worked well.

A Less Distinct Game

GreedFall 2 also feels like a less distinct game compared to the original. The game’s setting and characters lack the sense of style and urgency that made the first game enjoyable. The characters are not as interesting, and the story feels dull and unengaging.

Technical Issues

The game is also plagued by technical issues, including texture pop-ins, bugs, and a poorly designed user interface. These issues make the game feel un-optimized and unfinished.

Overall, I would recommend holding off on playing GreedFall 2 until the developers can address the issues and make the necessary changes to improve the game.
