The release of Final Fantasy 16 on PC has sparked a wave of creativity among modders, with many fans creating humorous and game-changing mods. Despite producer Naoki Yoshida’s request to avoid creating “anything offensive or inappropriate” mods, the community has been relatively well-behaved.
One mod that stands out is the addition of Clive voice actor Ben Starr’s glowing face to Clive’s cape, created by DadaDA on NexusMods. This mod adds a touch of humor to the game and is a great example of the creative possibilities of modding.
Other mods, such as the cheat table mod by Dehnonator, unlock higher difficulty levels and allow players to experience the game in new and challenging ways. The Combat Rebalance mod by PeaceSellsButWhosBuyin makes the game more punishing, while the Reduced Skill Cooldowns mod by Akeela_Darchiev increases the tempo of combat.
Modders have also created a variety of customization mods, allowing players to change Clive’s appearance in various ways. Some mods turn Clive blonde, recolour his armor white, or replace his face with that of a young Cid. However, not all mods are equally well-received, with some, such as the mod that removes Clive’s beard to reveal a giant chin, being met with disapproval.
The PC release of Final Fantasy 16 has been a success, with a Steam concurrent player count larger than Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Despite the game’s high system demands, modders are continuing to create and share their mods, adding a new layer of depth and creativity to the game.
