Final Fantasy 16 has set a new record for Square Enix games on Steam, with a peak concurrent player count of 27,508. This surpasses other popular games such as Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, and NieR: Automata.
The game’s concurrent player count is impressive, especially when compared to other Square Enix games. It beats out:
However, it remains behind Final Fantasy 15 and NieR: Replicant. Final Fantasy 14 remains the most played Square Enix game on Steam, with a significant lead.
Despite criticism online and Square Enix’s own admission of underperformance, Final Fantasy 16’s concurrent player count is a positive sign. However, it still lags behind God of War Ragnarök, which reached a peak concurrent player count of 35,615.
The game’s release also contributed to Steam’s new peak concurrent player count of 38,367,277 users. This is a significant milestone for the platform, driven by huge numbers of players in popular games like Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, PUBG, and Black Myth: Wukong.
Final Fantasy 16’s producer, Naoki Yoshida, had asked players to refrain from creating offensive or inappropriate mods, and so far, players have mostly complied.
