Traditionalists who wished Baldur’s Gate 3 had retained its classic real-time-with-pause combat roots now have a reason to rejoice. Modder tinybike has released a real-time combat mod for the game.
The mod, which is still in its early stages, introduces real-time combat to the game but lacks the “with pause” functionality. According to tinybike, this is a “very very very rough draft.” The mod is available on GitHub, but the developer warns that it’s not yet ready for prime time.
The lack of pause functionality means that players will likely struggle to make progress in the game. However, tinybike is confident that adding this feature won’t be too difficult. In a comment, the developer explained that pausing should be “pretty simple” to implement.
Despite the promise of the mod, there are still several challenges to overcome. For one, the mod doesn’t play nice with the game’s dialogue system. Players who try to play the campaign with the mod installed will likely find themselves getting “butchered in real-time” while the dialogue is happening.
While the mod is still in its early stages, it’s a promising start for fans of the classic Baldur’s Gate games. With official mod support now available for Baldur’s Gate 3, we can expect to see more mods like this in the future.
