As a long-time Apple Watch user and avid runner, I recently encountered a problem with the Fitness app on my iPhone. After completing a 10K run using a third-party app, I was surprised to find that I didn’t receive the expected Awards for my achievement.
I had switched to a third-party app to track my runs for a virtual race, which I later realized caused the issue with the Awards not registering. Despite the Fitness app correctly tracking my runs, the Awards themselves weren’t given, including a new personal best.
The Awards in the Fitness app are a motivating factor for many users, providing a sense of accomplishment and encouragement to push their limits. The app tracks and awards users for achieving milestones such as running their fastest 5K, 10K, half-marathon, and marathon races.
What’s frustrating is that the Awards system doesn’t work seamlessly with third-party apps. As long as the Fitness app registers the training event, it should give users the proper Awards, regardless of the app used to track the activity.
I’m hoping that Apple will fix this issue in the future, allowing users to receive Awards even when using third-party apps. Until then, I’ll be sticking to the default Apple Watch app to track my runs.
Key Takeaways:
As an avid runner and Apple Watch user, I recently encountered a frustrating issue with the Awards feature in the Fitness app. After completing a personal best 10K run using a third-party app, I was shocked to find that the Fitness app didn’t register the achievement.
It appears that the Awards feature only works when using the default Apple Watch app, and not with third-party apps. This means that even if you track your runs with a different app, the Fitness app won’t recognize your achievements.
While it may seem trivial, the Awards feature is a great motivator for runners. It tracks your progress and provides a sense of accomplishment. For me, not getting the Awards I earned was disappointing and frustrating.
I hope Apple will address this issue in the future, allowing Fitness app users to earn Awards regardless of the app they use to track their runs.
