ADT, a leading home security system provider, has revealed that it suffered a data breach that resulted in the theft of customer information. The breach was confirmed in a Form 8-K regulatory filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
According to the filing, outside actors gained unauthorized access to ADT’s systems and stole customer data, including email addresses, phone numbers, and postal addresses. The company claims that only “limited” information was taken from a small percentage of customers.
The leaked data was later posted on the notorious Breached forums by a user named “netnsher”, who claimed to have access to a database containing over 30,812 records, including 30,400 unique emails. However, ADT assures that no further customer information, such as credit card details or banking information, was affected.
